About Rob Roycroft
Rob can assist Private Developers in understanding and working with all levels of government. He can facilitate rezoning applications from "start to finish". Rob can work with Councils and Boards both new and old to help them to understand their roles in the community, their role with employees and how to work within the parameters of their new position and achieve their goals. He can walk them through the responsibilities of each level of government and the Community Charter. During their term on Council he can assist elected officials and staff in adapting to change; whether that change be staffing or as a result of community changes.
Rob provides insight into the workings of government & organizations in both the public & private sector. Recognized for his ability to see the big picture, Rob works to enable others to find & articulate their vision. His keen understanding of the role of urban economics & the relationships between policy development, regulatory bodies, the political environment and the real world allows him to assist organizations seeking support & guidance through their planning & implementation process.
With a demonstrated ability to facilitate corporate, government & public discussion, Rob helps his clients to see & clearly state their objectives and to prepare a path to achieve their goals. His down to earth approach allows him to communicate in ways that are understood by all participants and to overcome obstacles, including those posed by cross cultural and language barriers. He has proven his ability to discover opportunities for collaboration and efficiencies between all stakeholders.
Rob's strong presence and neutral stance make him an excellent choice to moderate the most challenging of public meetings. Through affiliations, Roycroft Consulting Services now offers mapping and technical support, research and editing and extensive knowledge of municipal clerking functions, including such activities as elections and referendum support.

Continuing Professional Development
In 2014 Rob presented sessions to the PIBC Annual Conference in Vancouver and the CIP Conference in Fredericton, NB. He continues to exceed the annual continuing professional development requirements to maintain his professional membership.
He was also appointed by the Alberta Government to a special Task Force set up to update Floodway Development Regulations following the devastating 2013 floods.
In 2011, Rob participated in several oral exams for full membership candidates, was on the organizing committee for rhe PIBC 2011 Annual Conference in Nanaimo and attended many of the sessions of that event. He also prepared and delivered a workshop on Council/Staff Relations to the Spring VILMA.
In 2009 and 2010 he attended a series of structural workshops on Climate Change, prepared and delivered a presentation on sustainability to the National Mayors Training Institute in Beijing. He delivered workshops to Public Health Officials, a Capilano College Class and participated in 7 PIBC Oral interviews for Full Memberships.
Rob was his appointment as an External Advisor to the Federal Office of the Auditor General where he participated in a national program audit of various Indian and Northern Affairs Land Management Programs. He also continues his role with NRCan on their Climate Change Regional Adaptation Program.
As a Full Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP), Rob meets his obligations to maintain his professional skills and knowledge and to keep them current.
Rob is continually seeking means to secure training in Corporate Sustainability and making both home and business Carbon Neutral.
Professional Background
Rob Roycroft is a Consultant, Leader, Administrator, Planner and Facilitator with wide and extensive experience in urban & regional planning, municipal administration, leadership & training. Prior to starting his own firm, Rob was employed by the Cities of Whitehorse, YT and Parksville, BC the Town of Peace River, AB and the Government of the Northwest Territories. He managed the NWT Branch Office for UMA Engineering, was a Project Planner for the Yukon First Nations, and was a Senior Planner and Office Manager for the Mackenzie Regional Planning Commission in Northern Alberta.
Professional Activities
Over his career, Rob has consistently participated in a wide range of professional activities. Examples of his past efforts include:
- Appearing as a regular lecturer for the Local Government Program at Capilano College.
- Participating as a member of the Faculty for the Local Government Management Association of BC's Municipal Administration Training Institute program.
- Was the first non-government of BC employee to be appointed to a Service Delivery Team project.
- Chaired the Project Team responsible for the development of the triple award-winning Parksville Civic & Technology Centre, an innovative joint service delivery facility.
- Appointed to prepare explanatory materials following the implementation of the new Community Charter by the Government of British Columbia as a member of a Minister of Community Aboriginal and Women's Services team.
- Was a key presenter at a UBCM Newly Elected Officials Seminar, on roles and responsibilities.
- Served as President of the Planning Institute of British Columbia, four years on the Board of the Alberta Association Canadian Institute of Planners and was a member of the National Council for the Canadian Institute of Planners.
- Rob has been asked to Chair a National Think Tank to review the Governance Structure and Practices for the Canadian Institute of Planners.

About the Roycroft Consulting Services Team
Administrative Services
Kathy Roycroft provides administrative support for Roycroft consulting services. She is in charge of scheduling and travel arrangements ensuring that Rob accomodates as many projects as possible. Kathy is responsible for financial reporting, document preparation, data management and countless duties in office administration.
Ryan Roycroft and Paula Bussing
Technical Services
Ryan Roycroft is an experienced AutoCAD technician, former Development Officer and Planner in BC's beautiful Okanagan Valley. He is currently the Manager of Economic Development for the District of Lake Country. Ryan recently achieved member status in the Canadian Institute of Planners and is currently completing his MBA. He provides remote support for drafting services and contributes to project assessment.
Paula Bussing provides administrative support as well as document design. As a Civil Engineering technology student, Paula provides additional drafting and mapping services.
